California Forever and artist Nick Stiles unveil new murals in the Vista Theatre
California Forever and artist Nick Stiles today unveiled a series of vibrant new murals in the Vista Theatre, which celebrate the rich cultural history of Rio Vista. The triptychs were created by Nick Stiles, an artist raised in Rio Vista, and were commissioned by California Forever to honor the 100th anniversary of this beloved local landmark. The art works are part of the company’s ongoing commitment to restoring and reopening the historic building for residents and visitors to Rio Vista to enjoy.
The Vista Theatre first opened in April 1925, and its interior was a model of Art Deco design and aesthetic. Nick Stiles’ work was inspired by dynamism of the Roaring Twenties and reflects Rio Vista’s history as a hub for cinema and film-making.
“We’re thrilled with the dynamic, beautiful triptychs that Nick has created to celebrate the centennial of the Vista Theatre. We’ve been restoring the building and are delighted to have reopened this historical treasure for Solano residents and visitors to enjoy for the first time in fifty years. The project is part of our ongoing commitment to invest in the communities of Solano, and we look forward to sharing it,” said Anders Engnell, Director of Community Partnerships at California Forever.
The Vista Theatre office of California Forever is open from 11am to 7pm, Mondays through Thursdays. We welcome the community to visit and see the murals firsthand.
The first mural unveiled within the Vista Theatre today, September 6th, illustrating the interior of the Theatre during a live show in the 1920s.
The second mural unveiled in the Vista Theatre depicting a steamboat on the Sacramento River, a dramatic scene from the Volga Boatman, and the exterior of the Theatre during a premiere. All were vital scenes from the history of the Vista Theatre in the 1920s.
